Life is like a 4-way stop intersection. Everyone has the common goal of getting to their destinations. You must work together with others to achieve your goals, via hand signals, honking, turn signals, etc. You generally learn the behavior of certain types of cars - which ones use turn signals and which ones don't. Eventually you can get pretty good at it, knowing which turn patterns conflict and how to get everyone through in the most efficient way possible. Sometimes you assume everyone knows the rules of the intersection, and that they will wait for you when you go through.
And sometimes they speed through and don't care.
