Skateboarding is a skill that takes a lot of time and practice, but doesn't look all that impressive. To a casual observer, most non-ramp (I'm pretty sure there is a term for this) tricks look the same. I understand there are all sorts of combinations of spins and flips and feet-position-switching involved, but I honestly can't tell what's going on.
I think this probably arises from having my hopes raised by the Tony Hawk Pro Skater videogame series, where you can grind on helicopter blades and jump between gaps on school roofs.
I also love how skateboard tricks are named. A "nollie frontfoot kickflip" just sounds cool. The way the words are stringed together to precisely describe the trick is almost scientific. It reminds me of how chemical compounds are named.
